Can you get banned from StumbleUpon?

Recently I have been seeing my stumbleupon traffic drop to 10% of what I used to get. I participate in the freebies stumble threads and was wondering if StumbleUpon gives me a lower rating for incoming traffic because a lot of my posts were stumbled?

Can a person get banned from StumbleUpon? I hope so. When I enter a search term and click stumble and it gives me a spammy site, I give it the thumbs-down. Hopefully, that data is being used to evaluate websites and the people that submit them. I have to believe there is a rule out there that devalues suggestions from people that submit low quality sites or mislabel a site for SEO purposes.

I'm not saying that you do this. I don't pretend to understand the SU algorithm. My traffic from SU varies a lot - sometimes there is a strong stream, usually a trickle, but I can't predict it.

I have not seen anyone get banned. But when you post your url to be stumbled as yoursite.com rather than http://www.yoursite.com I don't think it will show the refferer as dp.

And if you can still use the functions of the site, you are not banned. Try looking at your profile http://yourusername.stumbleupon.com

There is no rules against exchanging stumbles so no you will not get banned for that.

I have never seen any one banned, but if you feel that yours is banned, try to see the terms and condition... it might have some explanation..

I think you can get banned from StumbleUpon, however I haven't encountered any banned there. But it might be the reason, cause I don't use this web site often :)

    Thanks,
    Meti

Yes You Can, I've seen it..or rather I did. I saw this site that was very spammy on one of my stumbles, but the site was really bad in the way it was designed so I gave it a thumbs up with a review of why the page was funny. A month later I wanted to see the site again but it was gone, the url that I had bookmarked in my favourites showed up as if the page hadn't been stumbled. I went through the sites I had stumbled up with and realized that it was missing from my list. So I'm pretty sure they do take complaints . .however if you have a spammy type page you can pay a bit of money to get it featured, and that lets you have guaranteed views or something.

Of course they can ban people and exchanges violate their TOS. Stumble seems to have realized that spam is the #1 thing limiting their success, and are starting to deal with it more aggressively.

Yes I suppose it would be rather hard to get banned though, Stumble upon brings you untargeted visitors !

You can get banned from StumbleUpon. You need to familiarize yourself with this social network's Terms instead of relying on the opinion of others. Pay careful attention to the Personal Use Only part of the Terms as many DP users are flouting their rules.

My stumbleupon account was banned after I submitted a website to EVERY group in the 'related websites' part. Maybe I overdid it? Either way, my website itself is not banned (Yet! :))

I would think one would. I know many here at DP had their Digg accounts banned. So to me it would be possible.

Stumble isn't as bad as digg. They allow exchanges, but don't allow people to stumble exchange websites. Makes sense.

No matter how small a company is, if a user poses a threat to the quality of their service and violates the TOS then they should go out of their way to make sure that user is banned. I'm sure StumbleUpon has more than enough resources to take care of the few users who try to cheat their system.
