My site www.diamondfilms.co.uk targets the keyword "Wedding Video" Type in google UK.......... "Wedding Video Awards" Page 1 Type in google UK..........."Blu-ray Wedding Video" Page 1 Type in google UK..........."Wedding Video" Page 32 !!! How can wedding video be at page 32 but when you add awards or blu-ray we land page 1? I can't figure it out. Can you?
What's the mystery here? 'Wedding Video' is a more competitive term than 'blu-ray wedding video' Lots more people are optimising (and searching for) for 'Wedding Video' than for 'Blu-ray Wedding Video' or 'Wedding Video Awards' - you're probably getting on page one for those unpopular long-tails because they appear on your site, or in an anchor text somewhere, and nobody else is actually deliberately optimising for them.
'wedding video' is obviously a much more competitive term compared to the other phrases that you are targeting. You probably just don't have enough quality links with 'wedding video' as the link anchor text. There are probably hundreds of websites targeting something like 'wedding video', but very few people would target 'wedding video awards'.
You are surprised that you land worse on a two word search versus a three word search? No mystery there.
These guys are correct. They amount of competition you have for any given term will be a determining factor in where your site ranks. From what I can see today, right this minute (because it could change anytime) is... wedding video - 8,080,000 results wedding video awards - 1,060,000 results blu-ray wedding video - 337,000 results (I think if you add 'blu-ray' to your page title you will move up with this term, by the way)
very simple ... Wedding Video has more competition than the other 2 keyword phrases as Tara33 explained!
"Wedding Video Awards" is bigger than "Blu-ray Wedding Video" which may result to specific sites like yours whom has "blu-ray" keyword on it "Wedding Video" is much more specific and according to keyword density, your site is not rank for it
