I don't think people spend a lot of time on MSN's algo because it yields so little traffic

If you use MS IIS webserver for your site you will rank good LOL!
J/K... I only noticed all the websites that rank better than me have keywords in the URL
But as I said in another post, I get more traffic from a website I exchanged link with, so I do not bother to optimize for MSN.

MSN alg is much different and unreliable, many of the people have strong metatags and H1 and title text, and for some reason it likes very high keyword density and newer sites such that spammers are successful

Yes. Lol i found MSN looks at the last updated timestamp on the files it views on the web... Pages that i update jump back to the top for about a week, then back out to page 40 again. Regular updated content does very well with them.

    I'm not sure about it.
We add new content almost daily but we still rank nowhere in MSN.
I also noticed their crawler is very slow. It hangs on our site for hours, but it spiders very few pages.

Their new algo: Scrape Google, turn the result upside down and show it.

    Sounds about Right!

MSN algo looks like it was cleaned up a bit with the new Live search engine but still too crapy to care about!

MSN in a nutshell. MSN likes keywords in the url 2. MSN for real estate anyway loves my smaller content per page sites than the massive page content driven sites. 3. higher density for keywords. 4. Text Links using your keywords on your interior pages. 5. Create two pages for a set of keywords using different variations of those keywords.

I have personally found that if you have a page with 200 words on it, it tends to rank better than a page with 500 to 700 words on it. Now here is the problem. If you want to optimize a single site for MSN and Google you have to find a happy medium. There is the real issue.

theres not much to tell about msn's algorithm. just keep on link building and some scathered keywords and you'll be alright. ;)

As per my experience msn emphasis more on your keyword and title of your website.
    My website is www.zihh.com
    keyword :- website directory
    Title ;- Website directory

And surprisingly it has very good rank on msn.

In addition of keyword density factor, you should considering the factors below:

    - clean code. Your html's code should be validated.
    - link popularity - it has the same important role just like in google ranking algo.
    - avoid spammy techniques, for example : building doorway pages and repeated keywords.

It really works for one of my site. Hope it helps you. :)

Fresh Content , Back links and Keyword density .. msn gives more weightage to these three
