I've noticed that LONG TAILS are critical in adwords and SEO. I finally realized this!

If my main page is for the shorter, main terms, and my sub pages are for long tails, is it ever possible to have TOO MUCH content?

If I put article so my site, do I just make them all optimized for different terms?

    Can I ever overdo it?

As a matter of fact, you can. It's called information overload for a reason. Just make sure that you have multiple pages instead of having everything lumped onto a single page when you're writing. One topic per page is the rule, though a single topic can span mutiple pages if need be.

Just remember to write for your visitors, and not the search engines.

    http://www.copyblogger.com/writing-for-seo/ will tell you why.

I usually make my articles around 1000 words in length and it has been working successfully for me.

I don't do that. I make them as long or as short as necessary to get the message across and to get my users to do what I want them to do. Not a word more or less.

I just had someone foreign write my articles. Great guy, but they're just too hard to understand. I need them re-written because I wanted them on my site -- darnit.

If I submit mediocre articles to sites, and no one takes them for their own sites, will I still be able to get backlinks?

I usually write between 500 to 1500 word articles per page. I will also rewrite these and then submit them to article directories linking back to the original. Works good.
