hi not been doing this for that long - can you create a campaign with too many adgroups? please help x
that's a pretty wide-open question. i don't think Google will penalize you for making a lot of adgroups although i believe there is an overall limit to the number of adgroups you can have in your account at once, but it's pretty high. if you're doing search you actually want to have single keyword adgroups to help your quality score. if you're doing content, put about 10-20 themed keywords into each adgroup
ok thanks for that - i have lots of adgroups ( like tons), with small amounts of keywords - some more then 20 but not over kill - im doing a campaign for a blinds company you see and they do so much stuff - im trying to cover all aspects from the start before i go live as opposed to too little
I've never seen a limit to the number of groups you can have. I don't think there is such a thing as having too many groups. Sounds like you are building the campaign just as it should.
I don't know if there is a limit, I suspect there is, and I can't find the answer. But 100 is NOT it as I manage campaigns with more than 100 groups.
Standard maximum is 100 http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=40907 But Google rarely stick to this, most accounts are automatically upgraded to make more, and if not then ask them and they'll usually increase the limit for you
Thanks for the link JHardy. Never saw it before. I guess my accounts with more than a hundred have been automatically upgraded.
We have campaigns with 500 ad groups. Unfortunately if you go over 500 you lose some ability to run reports, as we have learned. I'd stick with 100.
> how does google measure their quality score? This is off-topic to this thread but download my Adwords FAQ.
Yes once you have your account in good standing you can ask adwords team to 'up' your campaign & adgroup count, by default it's 100 and I think it's enough.
do you need to put all keywords in all 3 match types (phrase, exact and broad) for both, content and search campaigns/ads? thx
You don't have to use all three match types. In fact, I recommend limiting broad match types. You can mix and match. I know some people who create campaigns and groups to use only one type. For content, Google needs about 20 keywords to determine the theme. You can use broad matched keywords and there's no need to use phrase or exact. Although, I have a theory I'm trying to test that you should use only phrase match types.
