I've searched google and can't find the answer. Do amazon allow you to buy stuff through your own links?

If you do buy through your own link, the referral fee will be deducted.

Why would you do that anyway? Not THAT desperate for referrals, surely :)

Hey, you never know, it could be like in that urban legend about the guy who embezzled millions just by creaming off a difference in the decimal rounding.

There could be a little error in Amazon's software and it doesn't round off the decimals properly, introducing some small percentage error. So if you bought, like a couple of millions' worth of stuff, you could come out up in your referrals commission!

    Anyone wanna try?! He he.

p.s. this was meant to be a joke. I am NOT encouraging attempts to defraud Amazon!!

And how exactly is that supposed to work? Feel free to spend $10 million to get $700k in commission.

Naaa, I thought maybe I'd let someone else try. My millions are a bit tied up at the moment! :)

Oh, so you think the error might be as big as 0.07%! Wow, that would be a real issue!

Joking apart (this WAS a joke!), I think it could happen. I had an error of that order in an Access database invoicing application I made, because I defined the number field type wrongly!

That would be 7% and you still haven't explained how some rounding error is supposed to work in your favor.

Oops! There, see how easy mistakes can happen!

Well, oh, you know how it is with these hare-brained ideas - they are just waiting for some evil genius to come and figure them out. Me, I just want to sell a couple of copies of the new Harry Potter book and I'll be happy!

I don't think the old rounding error story is an urban legend. I remember when that happened.

I would buy from myself because a 6% discount is a 6% discount. Apparently they don't ban you or anything, just take the commission back if you order through your own link.

Have your sister buy it on your site. Anyone who does not have same address or last name and ship it to thier house.

I would not try it with same name or address you will get dropped from program.

People have posted before that they bought something through their own link and the referral fee disappeared. Others say nothing happened.

    I was worried about this.

I'm not looking to buy thorough my own link.

But I do a lot of buying on Amazon. And I have been doing a lot of testing affiliate links, so will I automatically get credited for my own purchase because there might be a cookie for my Assoc. ID still set?

At least Amazon don't go around banning accounts. It's fair they took back the ref comm.

Don't see any prob if the order is place with another affiliate id which different name/address :)
