I tried to search for this but I came up empty. Are you allowed to buy items through your own links? Or does it depend on the program your in?
Its a tuff debate in our calling card affiliate program because we pay up to 160% commission. I try to offer Pingo phone card gift cards to let our affiliate partners to Pingo's virtual telecom service. I do want to support our affiliates that plan to use our service in the long run and aren't looking to make a quick buck off the system. So I would say that it depends on the program, if its paying on a cost per lead or on a high bountry for the first sale. The affilaite managers might not allow you to control some abuse. But if they pay in the average 10% range, they should support it and take care of there affiliate partners. Because merchants should want its affiliate partners to be a customer to experience the site and products, so that you can better provide reviews and content for additional sales. hope this helped.
most of the affiliate sites don't allow to buy stuffs from your own affiliate links, it is better not to try that
Does your affiliate program use direct-track?( I asked this because many of the reputable companies use this system) I might be wrong on this, but I think if you are banned from one network using direct track, then you can't get on any network using the direct track system. So... most affiliate companies get upset when you just sign-up, do a bunch of offers yourself and the collect the money, only to cancel the service you signed up for. Some networks allow it, just like some networks allow you to advertise through myspace bullitens and some do not. If you have say 100 clicks, no leads, and you do an offer yourself I don't think any red flags will go up. But if you have 1 click, 1 lead on a few programs it is likely that your affiliate manager will be contacting you.
If you are an affiliate of clickbank, you can purchase any product with your own affiliate link and earn commissions. However, I think you have to generate at least 4 sales from different places and different credit cards etc.. to receive your first paycheck. Read their account policy for more details.
Like ISellSites said, many people do it, even if it is against the rules. I've worked as customer support for a few of the big-name gurus, and all of them generally have so much money, they don't bother wasting their time and chasing up cheaters like this, but if the vendors see fit, may do it themselves. Just my 2 and a half cents.
With all the mixed answers I sent out an email to the affiliates and as was mentioned some allow it and others don't.
