Can you buy exclusivity

    A Couple Questions about AdWords

    1) Is it possible to purchase exclusivity at any price with AdWords - i.e. could I buy "Coke" and prevent anyone else from having a sponsored link when the term "Coke" is searched on?

    2) If I bid for a keyword, under what circumstances will my sponosored link ad not appear. I understand if I bid low it will be at the bottom of the list, but at what point will it not appear on the list at all.

    thanks for sharing the knowledge

I thought that it was true. Someone sued Google and prevented them from running ads with their name in them.

Ah never mind, I found it.

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08/15/google_loses_adwords_trademark_case/

And it says that keyword targetting is fine, as long as the trademark name is not used in the ad itself.

Does that mean you can't use company names in your ads?

For example, a google search for Microsoft in google shows some ads with "Microsoft" in the title, but advertising microsoft related courses.

    This is all very confusing.

You're not supposed to be able to use TM'd names in the ad text but I don't really think Google cares anymore.

Yes, but they used to prohibit TM'd names from being used as keywords.

They only care if someone, like the company who's name you're using, complains. They are happy to take your money for that ad until that time comes:)

Yeah, and the process for getting TM'd names removed is pretty annoying.
