Can you believe this?

Imagine this; you have a two year old child and two older children. The older children have collected change and want to donate it. You pull up into a local stores loading zone near a donation spot, put on your emergency lights and look behind you. Your two year old is sleeping and the weather outside is horrible. Do you wake the two year old and take her with you and the two girls to the donation spot outside the door or do you leave her locked in the car that will be no more than 30 feet away from you?

This was the choice Treffly Coyne was faced with last December when she pulled up in front of a local Walmart to donate to a Salvation Army kettle. She chose to leave her two year old daughter in her locked and armed car while she watched her older daughters pour change from their father’s office into the Salvation Army kettle in front of the store. Police officers then spotted the two year old child alone in the car and yelled at Mrs. Coyne. As she tried to explain that her child was safer in the car and that she had not entered the store the police officers arrested her for child endangerment.

Coyne now faces a trial on these charges. Child Welfare Workers have stated that they have no evidence of abuse or neglect, yet she could still face a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

I think the police really over reacted in this case. I can't believe that she would still be facing these charges.
