Can you beat a site with Sitelinks?

When Google shows a website in the number 1 spot for certain keywords with sitelinks shown underneath to other pages on the same site, is it possible that another site can take over this number 1 place and have the sitelinks itself?

Or once a site has sitelinks there is pretty much no way to take its place?

Has anyone ever taken the number 1 place from a website with sitelinks?

Sitelinks are just another machine generated feature of a search engine.

my question was a little bit confusing.

what i was trying to say was: How hard is for a site that ranks #2 for a specific keyword to beat the website on the first place that has sitelinks for that keyword?

I just posted a thread on site links for the search "trade show booths".
I would think a site in #1 with links would be tough to beat (but not impossible). I always though sitelinks meant a site was much, much better. But for "trade show booths" the #3 result has sitelinks but the #2 doesn't, so maybe sitelinks don't mean a site is that much better, otherwise 3 would be 2 and vice versa...
Feel free to look at my thread and comment. :D

Sites with sitelinks have earner it over the time. If you work to establish your website authority, you sure can overtake the place.

Of course you can but it will be tough, because sitelinks shows the competitor has authority with google.

Yes it is possible, I have recently done so for two keywords with one of my sites. It took a frustrating 9 months of work to achieve it though.

There's no secret to gaining the top position in Google. Hard work and more hard work... that's about it. They reward the sites that have the most fresh content, which draws visitors, and accumulates links to the site over time.

    sure.

Reason == > site links do not indicate that the website has lots of links - it just indicates that it gets a lots of organic searches every day.So that does mean that it is unbeatable. There are many web sites that rank in first position without too much links - these are untouched niches and you could beat them easily.but there are many sites which have hell lot of strong links and also rank in first position - those sites can be beat but will require a lot of time that you will become frustrated.Patience is needed but still i would suggest to take some other niche as concentrating solely on that thing can frustrate you.

So the answer to your Q. is YES if the number of links that your competitor has, can be attained by you
No - >if the competitor has enormous beast of links - for example, just look at the links for websites that rank for mortgage loans :D

True, I agree... Patience is needed especially when your doing SEO in your site to get rank.. SEO is a long-term process wherein you have to work hard to get to the top position.

Gaining equal or better authoritativeness with that site with sitelink will give you better chance to overcome them. Dunno if Google could give equal trust to other site with the same theme...

Sites with sitelinks have large number of links and rank well and more easily in Google. Being #1 does not mean #1 for all keywords. Theses sites have pages optimized for specific keywords and not all keywords. You can always rank better for less competitive keywords or keyphrases. The key of success is to find your niche, which mean being #1 for less competitive searches, but in demand. It can probably take a lot of time and work hours (man people) to achieve the same results.

I have read that is a website has been ranked for over 2 years in the number one spot that Google will assign sitelinks as its the best site to be positioned for a certain keyword(s)

I Think other links need more popularity (not only pagerank) to beat that website or to get the higher rank than any website.

generally, it is always a battle of who is better in ranking. Sitelinks only give an idea that your competitor is highly favored in terms of popularity, contents and as well as its site structures.

If you can prettily study your competitor's seo strategy and outmatch it then you are good to go.

As to what amount of effort you would need, I think that is relatively impossible to quantify since KEIs and what-have-you differs immensely.

The ball game is always relative.

    I hope this one helps.
