Can you beat a site with Sitelinks on Google search results?

When Google shows a website in the number 1 spot for certain keywords with sitelinks shown underneath to other pages on the same site, is it possible another site can take over this number 1 place and have the sitelinks itself?

Or once a site has sitelinks there is pretty much no way to take its place?

Has anyone ever taken the number 1 place from a website with sitelinks?

I've never seen two websites with sitelinks sitting at #1 and #2 position.

redgsr, I mean can a site take the place of the #1 site with sitelinks, not that there would be 2 site's with site links...

Dosent seem that anyone has witnessed this ever happening?

Sitelinks are usually shown for a specific set of keywords. So my car dealership will show #1 with sitelinks when you type in its city and cadillac. This is because there is enough search for these keywords yet my site is by far the best choice...so Google will show sitelinks. Like if you type in best buy you get sitelinks. But you type in Electronics store...no site links.

Anything can be beaten with enough quality links. It will be very tough though.

You also have the user data to contend with - they have sitelinks because G deems them to satisfy the query the best.

I had a site once.... that took out another site with sitelinks... I will tell you it is not an easy process. My site didn't beat out the other site until google assigned my site sitelinks.

Taking place over that site which have sitelink for it is not an easy job and most of the time its impossible

but let me tell u about my competitor site, his site used 301 as he changed his domain but now another sites got his place and site link so i will say yes it is possible to get over anyother site which have site links but requires hardword.

I am fortunate enough to be in this number one spot for one of my sites so I hope that I can stay there forever but I doubt that it will remain if my competition works harder than I do.

You can over beat the site with some keywords, after you success and you are #1, the second site won't show sitelinks on the particular keyword

So it looks like its probably only possible if the #1 site screws up somehow.

I have not heard of anyone taking the #1 spot in this circumstance, a bit disappointing as Im gunning for some #1 spots with sites that have sitelinks...

yes it can definitely happen, but it is rare.

we have a client site that has had sitelinks on a buying keyword for more than a year, that suddenly dropped to the #2 position for a month or so (lost sitelinks obv) then reappeared back at the top with them again.

interesting thought, but if you try to compete [successfully] on the keyword that results another site as a site link, the sitelinks to that site will [i guess] disappear.. just a thought :)

When google gives a site sitelinks in SERPS google gives this site great authority. I think u will have a hard time outranking this.

dont think its not possible, i myself have done and redone it for my sites,
i have replaced a top number 1 site wit my blog[with no sitelinks] then again did replace my blog with a new site and now both sit on 1 & 2 position.

But it needs lot of work and especially huge content with that keyword

I have done it a few times, but just because you take 1st position does not mean you will get sitelinks. you can gain 1st and see no sitelinks for that keyphrase and if they regain that position they will likely get their sitelinks back.

I beleive that this can be done. you can take the 1st position and if you got enough and quality backlinks.
