Is it possible to tell google about words that I'd like them to ignore when they formulate which ads are best for my site? My site http://www.cleverfootball.com) is built on a 'platform' (Ning). The platform displays some text on the page that is throwing off Adsense so I get a lot of unrelated ads. The text is 'badge' or 'badges' - they're offering a 'badge' widget to display on other sites, much like the Feedburner feedflare widget. I end up getting a lot of ads for security card readers and such, even though my site is all about soccer/football. Thanks
That just filters out sites, right? I'll give that a go, but I feel I'll constantly be fighting security firms that keep bidding on those keywords, whack-a-mole style.
As far as I know you cannot filter by using keywords, however you manually review your website for advertisement, and than use competitive ad filter to filter unwated ads on your site.
You can not make it to ignore keywords, but you can define sections on your website and also ignored sections: https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=23168
i think its against their TOS to ingore certain keywords , there are certain rules to be followed when using the define and ignore sections .
I remember reading in adsense's FAQ that eventually you would be able to block certain keywords. That was about a year and a half ago, and nothing so far. The only things you can do now is use the competitive ad filter, or go into your code and change every occurance of the word "badges" to <!-- google_ad_section_start (weight=ignore) -->badges<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
