OK I have just setup a new Ad Group but I want to make a specific primary keyword phrases not show up for this ad group because I it running in another more specific Ad Group. So I was just wondering if it worked if you were add something like this: "bubble gum" "new bubble gum" "chewy bubble gum" "red bubble gum" -[bubble gum] Would this work? Can you even do a negative exact phrase?
You should be doing this for all your match types but most people don't because it gets confusing as hell.
Most of my negative search terms are phrase and exact, with only a few broad but it depends on your product. As an example, I manage a personal loans campaign for a client and I'll use phrase and exact negatives for "home loans" as they don't offer this service. I don't use the same term for broad because "loans" is still applicable - but I I can use "home" and "house" on broad match instead.
I use negative exact. But I have never tried for phrase and broad. I think that negative exact was previously called embedded match type.
Maybe I am missing something here, but does negative exact really help in anyway? For example, I am bidding on the word "jobs", and one negative keyword is "forklift driver" as a negative phrase. If someone typed in "forklift driver jobs" my ads wouldnt show. I need not worry about the exact because if someone typed in forlift driver, my ads wouldnt show up anyway (because no "jobs" in search term) In what instances would a negative exact keyword help?
the point of negative exact is to negative out keywords that are mapping to broad that you do not want or your services do not include so assume you have "job" as a broad keyword then you find out that "forklift driver jobs" is being mapped to your "jobs" broad keyword. Assume you do not offer any forklift driver jobs, you can then negative out "forklift driver jobs" as a negative exact however you might get remapped if someone put "forklift driver jobs online" because you only requested the exact version of "forklift driver jobs" to be removed. So now you need to change "forklift driver jobs" negative exact to "forklift driver" negative phrase so that no variation of "forklift driver" get remapped to your "jobs" broad keyword. You would never need to use "forklift driver" as a negative exact because it would never get mapped to jobs nor would "forklift driver" negative exact exclude you from showing up when "forklift driver jobs" is searched
