Is there a way to show a listing of houses for sale in WP? I'm thinking a real estate listing. Thanks!

Thanks all. So between Joomla and Wordpress, which would be better for real estate listings? I know there's a big difference in general between the two but just asking about your advice for a real estate website. Thanks!

You can also try using Classipress wordpress theme as it can be used for real estate and other classifieds related site.

You can read my write up about Classipress by following the link on my signature.

I second Classipress and the 3.0 version is a great base. IDX and MLS integration is a complex issue though.

Whatever theme you choose get support with it or an active community it will save you so much time and money

Which platform you build it on doesn't matter. Choose the one that you are most comfortable with and offers the options and usability that you want.
I don't know anything about Joomla, but I know Wordpress has some nice Real Estate Themes and Plg ins available.

Don't get me wrong. I love Wordpress, but if you are serious about a real estate listing site you need to look at software that caters specifically for that. One that comes to mind is Open Reality. You might have to tweak the look a bit but it provides functionality that is useful for real estate. Yes you can do a lot with Wordpress and Joomla but again, I believe in using the right tool for the right situation.

Totally agree, if it your core business or significant stream then get the best tool you know you can get a return on.

I have been testing this plugin which if you are using wp does some very useful things, they offer commercial support if you need it too.

Only used in testing so far

    "realshout.com/wordpress-real-estate-plugin.php"

Not affiliated with them in any way

Well, Wordpress is a really powerful CMS, and can be used for almost anything. And, there are many Real Estate themes available. You just need to look for them and probably modify them to your needs!!!

I suppose the comments on whether to use a CMS or a dedicated real estate software package are valid. WordPress is good for many things. WP-powered real estate sites would be great for basic or simple content management, whereas Open-Realty is great if you need a more powerful site management system to display more advanced stuff.

The thing is, you'd go for WP if you're already familiar with blogging. You'd go for another CMS if you're already familiar with that CMS (Joomla, Drupal, Mambo, etc). In other words, you'd go for any option if that any option is more familiar to you.

I use the new iDXpess plug-in for WordPress. It is a great real estate tool that displays all of the Indianapolis real estate listings in our MLS (MIBOR). You can see it in action by clicking the link in my signature.
