im talking about the new generation pop ups that dont trigger the pop up blocker softwares. dhtml or something? not sure

would it hurt the ranking / punishable by Google ?

because i want to capture more emails and im thinking to add pop up to the index page. however, i have never seen any authority sites that use pop up on their main page ?

what do u guys think ?

w/o pop up the lead capture will be much less.

    so?

    thanks so much guys :)

Pop ups definitely work but the traditional ones will hurt you.

I guess most authority sites don't use them because simply, they have the authority. Surfers go to them, they are big enough to afford not to actively capturing leads. I may be wrong, it's just a guess.

If you go to the home page on my site (see my sig), you'll see a float-in "pop up" page offering a free trial in exchange for a subscriber's email and it works pretty well.

You can get it a Matt Callen's site http://www.instantpopover.com for $67 and it can do a variety of styles.

I think it's a good investment plus I don't think it affects your ranking much.

    Good luck :)

Aweber lets you build those really easily... better yet you can split test them. It's only $20 a month and you can run unlimited lists.

I'm against pop ups... they will hurt your authority and visitors' opinion... but still you can be even punished for that by Google and so on... most of the PPC affiliate programs also don't accept pop ups

I think Google doesn't like the traditional pop ups, but "float-in" ads are ok. I'm running several adwords campaign with float-ins on them and Google hasn't disabled my ads (hopefully not!) :)
