Hello Friends, Many people will be familiar with the popular Google (XML) Sitemaps as main for indexing the all pages of the website. Our sitemaps contain than 5,560 urls. So i decided to split that large sitemap.xml file into smaller .xml files with sitemap1, sitemap2, sitemap3,sitemap4, sitemap5. Does google accept sitemaps with that many files? I am waiting for your replay ASAP... Thanks & Regards DESSS
Yes, you just need supply a sitemap index file. But there us no reason to split such small xml sitemap file? 5000 URLs sitemap file is not a particular large sitemap file! Sitemapping tools will split automatically when necessary (at least A1 Sitemap Generator does)
Yes you can break the site map if it is large than 10 MB... Break your Sitemap into several smaller Sitemaps, and list these in a Sitemap index file. Upload your Sitemaps and Sitemap index files to your site, then submit these files individually.
yes it can be split or zipped. check this site out. http://betterexplained.com/articles/how-to-optimize-your-site-with-gzip-compression/ <-- (not my site)
Yes you can split the large sitemaps into small one and it will help in the indexing of internal pages of your website properly.
Like the most people already mentioned it is indeed possible. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2006/10/multiple-sitemaps-in-same-directory.html
