Google says we can't tell people to click ads or tell them to support us, but can we point out the fact that our site is supported by the ads displayed? It seems like general information to me, and by my logic would not void TOS, but I am operating from the mindset of a webmaster, and I would like some input into this. Thanks.
Better play it safe and not mention about the ads at all. Google might find that as an excuse that you have violated their TOS.
If I'm not mistaken, google would allow "sponsored ads" or "sponsored links" heading for the adsense ads.
All good points, but my point was, "This site is supported by ads" seems to be just general information about the site. It doesn't directly tell anyone to click any ads.
Google might not have the same view point as you. Better to be safe than sorry! Don't lose your money.
yes you can say that. you can put that on your disclaimer page or above ads saying sponsors or advertisers
seems to me that you are heading down the wrong path just looking for ways...........one thing leads to another
The word "supported" draws peoples' attention to the fact that you gain a financial advantage by people clicking your ads. That's wrong. I always think it's safer not to label ads at all.
I have been contacted by the Adsense team for pointing out the ads in my website's copy, so I say don't do it based on my experience. Also, I have found that people actually click less on the ads if you mention explicitly that you are being compensated for them. I think it will hurt you, not help you. TomG.
Thanks everyone for your help so far. I think I will take your advice by and large, and not point out my ads. I was thinking, though, my forum as a plugin where if the user is using an ad blocker, it displays a blocking message. I wonder if it will be good to put it there as "This site is supported by ads an donations" since it is contextually relevant.
I would say not to try anything that would encourage clicks. Like don't point any attention to them even though you want to.
You should not do that. Do not give any clue to the adsense support that may lead to the blockage of your account.
