Can we host a high traffic forum on shared servers like hostmonster?
where more than 1000 people will be online at the same time..
or will i need to go for vps or dedicated?

Probably not, particularly as they most likely oversell by large amounts.

    Dedicated : no
VPS : for openvz : generally no , for xen : might have
Generally too much CPU intensive VPS accounts are suspended.

they will not even allow you to run forum with 50 users online.
go for a clustered solution with a dedicated mysql server.

dedicated servers , you control the complete server so only physical limits exist

VPS servers , you are limited to the cpu and ram you have purchased .

Yes, technically you could host them on a shared server, but don't go with an over-seller, because you most likely will exceed the cpu limit for your account

1000 concurrent user in a shared hosting will be difficult. Take a dedicated server for it. Vps is not a good idea for it.
