Looking for an answer as I am bit confuse about one small stuff I have a 4 year old popular site ranking well with 2 of my desired keywords. In due course of time I developed several sub-domains and directories like few abc.mysite.com and mysite.com/xyz. Basically these are example blogs with unique contents and some test pages but they have good traffic. Now i want to move all above to 8 new domains, and keep mysite.com as it is, shall i use 301 permanent redirect or remove everything? Thanks in advance for answering my thread..
If you don't mind maintaining the old pages, 301 would work just fine. It would not cause any damage to your rankings; it's fairly standard practice to see sites split up into sub-domains and to acquire new domain names. Removing everything, and putting it up on the new domains would hurt your page ranks, as well as your ranking in the search engines.
