I see what you're saying I guess, that the short character limit requires you to get your message across quickly. Maybe Twitter can help you become a better headline writer.

Can Twitter make you a better writer?

    Pros:
1.) You learn to demonstrate ideas in short, detailed, effective sentences.
    2.) You expand your vocabulary.
3.) You develop a stronger sense of creative writing.

    Cons:
1.) You may end up doing 'txt' language (meaning '2' instead of 'to', 'r' for 'are', etc.)
2.) Sometimes 140 characters just isn't enough to make a logical statement.

The pros/cons all depend on whether you want to use Twitter "professionally" or for personal use.

Good luck with your article :)

I personally agree. Even if Twitter went to a new format of messages that are 140+ characters... nothing would change, just longer egotistical BS.

However, I must say that some people are using Twitter in interesting ways (I'm a poet myself and their are indeed some cool projects going on :D)

It can make you a more succinct writer, but not necessarily a better one. Then again, this could only really be applied if one needed to get an article across in 140 characters... though I suppose that could apply to unique positioning statements. :)

Twitter is a network filled with a bunch of spam. It will not help you. Try blog posting.

twitter is the best tool ever if you suffer from writers block.

You only have 140 characters or less to write.

    Anyone can write 2 sentences.

Because of the 140 character limit it can improve making the most out of small paragraphs, but beyond that it really isn't going to improve web content writing skills.

In some ways Yes. Twitter can make you a better writer because you need to be concise in your ideas. :D

I personally think the more active you are you will improve your own writing skills. It is a good thing doing it you can only benefit from it.

I agree with the opinions above. You can get familiar with your audience, thus becoming a better writer. But it also makes it a habit to write short.
