Can too many links be bad for ranking?

Yes, google will either ban you or penalize you. Link building should be natural. The more your domain be old the more it is good for making more back link.

There is no problem in link building, only if you build it in a ethical way. Even if you get 100s or 1000s in a day its not a problem but getting 1Million in a single day...

 

can somebody tell how many backlinks per day is normal ? 100, 200.. or how much ?

 

Think content first, backlinks second if your site accomodates regularly added content.

Consider that many backlinks to an empty site serves little purpose.

On a particular site of mine i see a much better outcome from adding good content, i still build plenty of backlinks for it but its a combined effort that i believe has helped that particular site.

Regarding the thread topic: I think that a lack of content can be bad for ranking.

You will probably ignore me though and ask again shortly how many backlinks again are bad for ranking, lol

For me,more link do nothing to hurt your site it's a matter of how you link it.On the other hand if you link into the site that is not so related into your top/service offered into your site...that is possibility that your site will be banned by the search engine....

Number is not an issue, its the timeframe that's affects sandboxing.
