Possibilities that maybe could lead to a penalisation could be tons in just a few days, lots all using the same method in just a few days, nearly all from the same ip's, thousands of porn or warez links pointing back to your mobile phone site as an example.

Depends what tons are to you though.

Sounds like I will be safe if the links are from different domains with various anchor texts going to different pages on my site. There shouldn't be a limit of # of links if I do it this way.

    100+ doesn't seem too bad i think.

Something like 1000+ could be risky.

I plan on writing a series of linkbaiting articles on my new blog and doing some off page seo with related websites. Do you think any of the following meathods are risky?

    - My articles
    - Submitting RSS feed to 20+ sites
    - 50 backlinks from related blogs
    - automatically pinging over 20 services
    - Making over 10 posts per day from day one

They nearly all seem quite fine to me MarketExpert, the only one im a bit unsure about is Submitting RSS feed to 20+ sites

I think the Making over 10 posts per day from day one is brilliant, if its all original content then thats fantastic, i think your approach should bring decent results.

Okay to answer the question in the thread title - not if you can maintain that rate of link development. You want those incoming links to appear natural as far as the search engines are concerned. As for the second one, the only issues I see are the pinging and ten posts per day on the blog, but I tend to be a bit conservative with my work anyway. Depending on the niche though, it may or may not be such a bad thing.

I think you don't have to worry too much unless you are using questionable methods or paying for large quantities of unknown links etc....

    Just keep it steady.

If you have twenty links a day, then keep getting twenty a day, don't go from no links to hundreds of links instantly..

If your site is new and suddenly you get thousands backlinks in several days then Google might ask why?

NYTimes is NOT a new site...and Google knows that and also it knows that the site can get thousands of backlinks back (by its news site nature).

If I add my website link to the bottom of each of my blog posts, which are on my own blog does google see that as spamming or just a link?

I agree. There's probably no such thing as a bad incoming link or else your competition could get links to you that would penalize you and....then they'd have motivation to do so.

From one test on one of my sites in my opinion you can get penalized for only 10 link building daily, if the links don't look natural.
My test was for a new site, I builded around 200 links monthly for 5 moths using only using 3 anchor variations and 3 text variations around the anchors.
After a month the site was in the 2 position for a popular term one word, after 2 months the sites lose the serp and was hidden in the 1200000 results.
After 5 months I decided to change the anchors and surrounding text, and after 2 weeks of change the site was 11 in result page.
I'm sure that if I will change again I will get in top 3.

So I think if you mix link building alot you will not be penalized.

You better believe it that getting too many incoming links too fast is to be avoided.

If you are not already aware of this, I can only assume that you have yet to learn the good stuffs from this forum.
