Can they do this?

I use some of their banners from various vendors passively...on some of my sites. I don't promote any of there stuff much -- as I prefer Clickbank or CPA networks. But I have made a few sales...nothing big. Hadn't hit the payment threshold yet.

Anyway, I signed in earlier to discover that not only had they DEACTIVATED my account, but WIPED OUT my earnings!

I received no email, no warning - nothing. It was a total surprise to me that my account was deactivated, as I had been in to get new links just a couple of weeks ago. Now -- I was able to REACTIVATE my account with a click of a couple of buttons BUT...it says I have to reestablish links with all of my vendors which is a process in itself...and my balance still says ZERO.

WTF??? I earned those commissions! I contacted the vendors directly who I had earned commissions from (via CJ) and let them know what happened. I told them I would be taking all links down as I no longer trusted CJ...and thought they should know.

Amazing with all of the complaints, this business is still around. Unless, they clear this up with me, I maintain that they're a bunch of crooks!

Reading stories like this make me want to stay away from CJ. Have you not e-mailed them asking why they done this?

Of course I emailed them. They charge a fee if you are 'inactive' for a certain period of time...meaning if you've earned no commissions. No one else does this - if I choose to concentrate on other programs and can't maintain a passive, even if low income with these guys - then I won't bother at all.

    They're bad news.

Thanks Leobaq - fortunately, it wasn't enough money for me to lose sleep over. Even if I got them to refund it to me...the fact that they are the type of company that does this to people doesn't sit well with me. I do make some significant coin with other affiliates and if they pulled something like this??? The s-it would hit the fan, LOL!

I don't want to have 'keep bugging' any company to get commissions that I worked hard to earn, no matter the amount. So, I'm not going to bother with it.

But - if you are earning a lot with them already - than I could see why you would bother...anyway, just my final thoughts on the
    matter .

You agreed to it when you signed up - look at the agreement. http://www.cj.com/psa.html Section 3f. Not sure what the current rate is; it used to be $10/mo after 6 months of dormancy until the account reaches $0 - then, the account gets deactivated.

Others are also getting on bandwagon. In clickback similar rules apply, if you don't get the repeat business, they don't want you.. unfortunately.

I think they do it to monetize off you anyways. If you haven't made a sale with them buy a calander for $.99 and call it good

If you can't make a single sale in 6 months, what's the point in having an account? You can purchase something or complete a lead through your own account if you really want to keep it active.

It only takes $50 to get a payout...

It's better when large networks like this disable accounts after long periods of inactivity. I've managed affiliate programs on Linkshare & CJ - I can't count the number of accounts from the early 2000s come up in Linkshare when trying to recruit affiliates, all which have been inactive for years. It's a huge pain, and CJ doesn't have that problem.

Don't you think then "inactivity" should be measured in impressions or clicks instead of earning commissions. For eg an affiliate could still be trying to promote products for several months however just because there is no sale doesn't mean he's inactive.

Exactly. That's the whole thing. I get why they don't want dead accounts in their system - that's logical. But just because I wasn't heavily promoting their products doesn't mean I wasn't generating lots of traffic to their client's products. It's not my fault people don't like what they're seeing once they get to the page -- but I was bringing them clicks - daily!

CJ also should have notified me before marking it 'inactive'. It is completely wrong that they didn't.
