The 49er's made it very close and should have beaten the world champion New York Giants if not for 2 mistakes by one replacement punt returner. They have a brutalizing defense that can hold any offense under some control. They key will be in the offense and if a still unproven Alex Smith can look like a winning quarterback like we have seen, or like a bum. The addition of Randy Moss can only add another threat along with the fastest tight end in the league and a punishing running back in Gore.
