Can Submitting to Directories Harm My SEO?

From what i read people seem to be divided on this topic. Some say that submitting to directories is great for seo and will being listed in directories will help your site yet others say it is harmful. So which is true

One thing that does come to mind is the types of directories (ie quality) and how quickly you get the links would be a major determining factor, but how do we judge which is best? I also see a lot of these "auto submit" type programs or services available, surely they are considered spam by the search engines? Yet lots of people use them and have good reports?

What is the best or right thing to do when it comes to directory submission and should we even be submitting at all

3-4k really? Wouldn't Google de-index your site for that? Seems like a lot of backlinks in only just over a month

 

Not at all, just keep up in mind that some directory sites takes months to count before your link could be approve you have to make sue that you submit on directories that are pretty famous.

 

It won't hurt - but make sure you change your link anchor around - that way you can get ranked for other keywords too

 

No it won't hurt, but I don't recommend it, as it is usually a waste of time. Posting on forums, and including your signature link is a much better way to build backlinks.

 

for me, directory is the safest way... its not that high quality but you can put your link to highly relevant category where you business fit...

Well, ever since the latest major Google Algorithm update, the value of directories is going downhill. Many of them were considered "link farms" according to Google.

The directories that do a more rigorous screening process before accepting your site, are still worth it. IMHO
The others aren't really worth your time or effort, and just may do your site more harm than good.

 

I don't think it will harm SEO. But submit directories can waste some time.

Well as the pros mentioned earlier, changing the anchor text will really help your site in SERPs. Submitting to the sites does not hurt at all, infact you have more varieties and can explore different ideas of keyword rankings. Yes 3-4 keywords will not affect you from being a devil in google's eyes

No there is no harm to submitting in Directories.You can do directory submission without any doubt.It is not a spam work for getting back links.All search engines like directories and directories work as a feed for all search engines.

No IMO because I had personal experience to do so and still I am submitting on directories and this was helped me but on thing I am doing cleverly is I do not use to submit in any directory. Best is to submit in selected one on the basis of PR, Domain age and popularity of the directory.

 

Noway we can't say it's hurt, other ways its a safer way to get permanent back links, Yes can't post hues amount, else Ok.

 

It can only help you with ranking but don't submit your link to hundreds of sites at once, submit your link to few directories every day.
