Can Spiders Read Cookies?

Do search engine spiders accept cookies so that they experience a site the way a person would? I assume yes.

It's just that sometimes I need to use cookies. And I wanna make sure. ;)

No, search engine spiders can not accept cookies. All a spider is interested in is content and if that content is hidden behind a cookie, then your pages wont get crawled.

That makes sense, yet surprises me too. It just seems that some sites are very cookie dependent, like when a site tells you to choose a language, or that new scheme that asks for you zip code. How do those sites get their pages indexed then?

Also English may be a 'default' language if cookies can't be accepted, and then the site would get the English content indexed.
