I have a forum that I put up and want to 301 the home page to the forum but was advized that Y! may react poorly to that. Can anyone confirm this? Or should I just do the redirect?
I've never heard anything specific about Yahoo handling 301 redirects badly? Where did you hear it? I've recently 301'd a coupel fo sites/pages and noticed nothing adverse with Yahoo results or slurp spidering.
Well, I've seen some sites keep up a throw-away home page (like Cutts blog) now. The person that told me this has been around a long time and knows his stuff but sometimes he likes to mess with people and I couldn't tell if he was screwwing with me or not.
rmc- I have two old domains (consensor.com & comtecars.com) 301'd to the current domain (comtec-ars.com) since about Feb 2006. I have not seen any issue with Y! at all. /tom/
I'm not saying he's not right, just the times that I have done this myself I've never noticed any issue. Recently I had two sites on the same subject, I 301's one site to the other (the site I 301's was ranking well in Yahoo) the target site is now (within 1 week) ranking at #1 in Yahoo. The search term is amongst the most competitive around too.
All right. I've asked around enough and it seems nobody knows what I'm talking about so I'm going to assume my leg was being pulled and just do it. Thanks all!
I have a couple of domains with 301s to multiple parts of the site that get good traffic from Yahoo. It is hard to say if it would get better traffic without it or not, but it seems ok.
