http://www.urbanmonk.net/ Any reviews? Is the red star in the corner overkill? And any errors, especially from people using Macs - I don't have access to a Mac... Thanks in advance! Also, I had to design for 1024x768, but I have a feeling people into Personal Development (the site topic) will be older, so there will be more then 14% using 800x600....at the least I designed it so the least important widgets are on the right column so they won't miss out much. Do you think that is a workable solution?
Sure thing. I'm on FireFox so the coding is fine. Centre the layout and put a background on. The Google Ads are in a precarious position as it seems to be the first bit I'm drawn to when I see your site. I'm not going to comment on the content though
Nice work. I like colors and design. In FF everything works fine. In my opinion you are overdoing it with ads though.
Nicely done. I don't think the ads are overkill, I think the ads are like most sites. I see that you have set up channel names on your Adsense. Watch those, and drop any channel that is not performing. Also be sure to play with the ad combination. Best of luck to you
I have a mac and the site (coding wise) looks good in safari and firefox. How ever i am not a great big fan on teh design, the main reason for this is because i think that the colours dont match. But thats what i think regards
thanks for the advice guys! Any more tips on the advice on the ads? I've asked for reviews on ad locations on the adsense subforum, they say its fine. Freshdesigners, which colours don't match? The light yellow bg on the two side columns were a different colour but they showed up pink on my laptop so I stuck with web safe for that one. cheers
Thats nice looks good , except i would add some sort of effects to those yellow buttons in the header maby some light bevel or sumthing.
Nice design and good code. Word of advice, move all styles into a file instead of placing them directly inside header.php. Your defeating one of the major purposes of using stylesheets. Stylesheets are cached. So whenever a user views a page, the sytlesheet wont be downloaded again (unless the user instructs the browser to download it everytime a page is loaded). This will be helpful for users who are on a slow connection..
The header looks nice but a few things I'd change: make star smaller remove "navigation" and "tools", fonts are too small anyways remove the ads from the banner remove the orange-white strip below the header, it's too much don't do this mirror thing for the "Urban monk". First it doesn't fit in size and second the pattern behind the header is way better
