I thank all of you who have PM your services/help. I really want to learn HOW to do this myself. I am not looking for someone to do it for me. I need and want to learn it. I just can not get that php to open in notepad or anything else and want to know the steps of how to???
Download a program called Edit Pad Pro Version 6. Once installed, use File > Open > then go through to find your PHP file, then click OK. It should load without problems. If it has problems, you have a corrupt PHP file.
if you are using a pc download the file wp-config.php to your PC desktop ftp Dreamweaver ect 1) As everybody says OPEN NOTEPAD 2) When looking for the file wp-config.php put *.php to see all the php files on your desktop 3) Find the f you just download wp-config.php 4) Click ok OR if you don't wish to do all this your can install a bog using Fantastico if your hosting provider has this
Notepad++ ftw. It even has code colouring - just download it, open it, and then use the File > Open to browse to your .php file, open it, change it, etc. Job done
Most everthing that has been posted is correct but if I may add just a couple of clarifications. The file must be on your local computer and not on the server. You can not click on the file to open it. You must use the file open feature of whatever program you choose to use. Notepad should open it but it is not the best program to use. In addition to those already mentioned notepad2 is free, easy to use and will do the job. You can search for it or get it here for free. The link is about 1/2 way down the page and the article might help you also.
Of course the file can be on the server. Live editing isn't recommended, but it is completely possible. At least if you are using a decent FTP-client (WinSCP on Windows comes to mind).
Google for Notepad++ - it's a good editor for manipulating php files. When installed, if double clicking on the .php file doesn't automatically load it, right-click it a select 'Edit with Notepad++'.
