These are commission models or cost models

CPA, CPL - cost per action, cost per lead... lead is also action so it is similar... generaly the "action" is submitting email or filling some survey or form.

CPM - cost per thousand... as a publisher you get paid for 1000 impressions of advertiser banner and than metric used here is fo example $1.50CPM... Same can be for advertisers... they pay also some amount for displaying of ads and this number is in CPM. Also when you use CPA and other programs you see how many views it takes to get lead and make money if you know how much you make per 1000 than you talk again in CPM.
From publisher view is CPC network like Paypopup, Clicksor,... where you get paid for views, in this case popups or banner views... no need to click.

CPC - is cost per click... from CPM you can easily get CPC... people clicks on affiliate link but only few make you money so you can get average CPC.
From publisher view is CPC network like Adsense, Clicksor,... where you get paid per click

Is this clear now? I hope I got it right...
