The following things have to be covered for effective SEO:
Directory Submission: On a routine affair, keep submitting the URL of the site to various directories.
DMOZ, Yahoo and MSN are some of the key directories. Popular search engines will display the list of these directories. After the URL has been submitted, various directories need to be activated and in order to activate incoming emails from the directory webmaster an email id has to be submitted.
Search Engine Submission: In search engines, you should submit the URL of the site. To increase the PR of a site, Search engines play a pivotal role. Google, AOL, Yahoo and MSN are the chief search engines around.
The URL of the site can be submitted with the aid of an Add-URL that is present in every search engine.

The URL submission sent by the webmaster has to be activated in most search engines.

First off, don't worry about DMOZ - Recently Matt Cutts has said don't worry about it.

Do not keep submitting your site to directories. Build your site, create a sitemap and submit it to Google, Bing and Yahoo and leave it at that.

Concentrate on on two key areas - content and links. if you master both of these, everything else is secondary.

However, you also really need to name your pages well - give them a name that is the same as the content of the page. Come up with a page title (meta) that is descriptive for that page. You will also find that a good description will help draw people into your site when they find you in the search engines.

However, if this is a new site, consider adding a Wordpress blog to start getting found more easily because static pages can take some time before Google sees them and takes notice. A new domain takes time to build up a presence.

    Hope this helps a little.

I second what Andy has said. I think it is important that you add quality content and concentrate on your link building. You should link to high PR and relevant content sites. Also consider social bookmarking, and article writing and submitting. Keeping in mind all of the time that quality far exceeds quantity.
