Can Someone Lead Me To A Good Wordpress Tutorial

Ok, I need to install wordpress at a Go Daddy hosted domain. So far, I know I need to be using the linux os but that's about it. Wordpress explains how to do the username stuff and what have you but I'm no programmer for sure.

I need some serious help here.

Also, how or where do you install a new template once it's up and running.

Oh, by the way, I don' know too much about databases so I need a point in the right direction for a tutorial that's not missing large chunks of information assuming I already know.

    Thanks In Advance,

    Sheree

Check out my Wordpress installation tutorial - it explains how to install WP easily using Fantastico (in your cPanel). And I think it doesn't matter if you have Linux or Windows hosting.

To install a new WP theme, just upload it to the folder wp-content/themes/ of your WP installation and then activate it in your WP admin panel (presentation > themes).

FYI GoDaddy will install Wordpress for you in their Hosting Connections ( I think that's what they call it now) It will be a little bit behind current but good to start with. You can then add a plugin for automatic updates yourself. Adding plugins and 'Themes' is pretty easy. You just download and drop it into a specific folder. The themes and plugins will usually have a readme that will guide you, or as everyone else has mentioned, Wordpress.org has everything you need.

Wow you guys, thanks so much for all your help. About Go Daddy, do I have to have a certain host account to have them do that and how do I go about getting the ball rolling. Will you guys help me with plugins and themes? I want to have a wordpress blog so bad I can taste it. I have this little empire of websites and blogger blogs and I think a wordpress blog would be so much more professional, don't you?

One other thing. I can't log into Go Daddy with my FTP client for some reason. I've tried everything. Any ideas?

I think they only do it on the Linux hosting. Goto RetailMeNot.com and get a coupon code and then sign up for the cheap hosting if you only want to run one site, and the next step up if you want to run multiple sites out of one hosting account. Once you have your hosting setup then you can use the hosting control panel to goto the Hosting Connection for them to run the install. I don't remember the exact steps for everything so sorry if I'm vague, but they weren't hard to figure out you may just need to poke around a little and do some reading. Once you have a hosting account you should be able to login via FTP. I use Filezilla and don't have any problems.

Yes you need the Linux account on GoDaddy and I think that the economy GoDaddy plan gave me some issues with custom permalinks and a few plugins. But I guess if you run into issues with it you can always upgrade the account.
