    Hey,

I didn't know which forum to post this in so hopefully this is the one :)

One of my sites was getting roughly the same uniques every day, a very steady site for month.

On the 7th Feb my stats jumped up a huge amount, by up to 10 * more which is a lot - I have looked through my stats and I really can't find where its coming from...

92.4% is direct access and 3.4% is from search engines, mostly from yahoo and 4% is from other sites, nothing that is giving a lot of traffic that would account for the big jump.

Does anyone know where I can find out where the traffic is coming from and more importantly, why it jumped up?
Most is from direct access and I was expecting it to come from search engines or sites for the spike so I can't understand it.

The other thing is my earnings haven't reflected the traffic rise, I am getting a lot more impressions but my advertising is adsense and I haven a far lower CTR with the extra traffic.

Any help is really appreciated :)
    John

But it couldn't jump so much just from word of mouth + bookmarks over two days with steady traffic at the same level for more than 4 months, 10 times my traffic is a huge jump.

Add www.statcounter.com to your site. It will let you at least see where the traffic might be coming from.

Maybe you're being spidered by search engines?

I saw a similar spike last month for one of my sites. In fact, in my case the increase was even more: around 20 times or so. My site had been included in the Xtra newsletter (Xtra is the largest ISP in New Zealand) so I know exactly why I had seen the spike.

I think this is probably the only way you can suddenly see a spike in Direct Visits 'cos clicks from search engines or other sites won't be recorded as direct access hits and direct access hits should in theory go up slowly as more and more people bookmark your site. 10 times overnight should be a newsletter inclusion imo.
