Hello all, I just started with Adsense and am a little confused. I have a "free laptop" website in which I wanted to run some "free laptop" adsense ads. However, I cannot seem to get the correct ads to display. I keep getting sites like Dell.com or HP.com or Apple.com, etc... I changed the text on the site to eliminate those keywords and just used terms like "free laptop" or "free computer" within my site. After that Adsense would show links like "Cheap Laptops" or "Find the best deal on computers." They wouldn't show the "Free Laptops" ads, however, they were on the second rotation when clicking the carrot "< >" symbol, but they were not on the first ad unit. I'm assuming I can't get my free laptops ads to show first, since places like Dell, HP, or other big online retailers are outbidding them. I thought maybe I could choose the option to "only allow certain sites" to display on my page, thus, excluding everything else. So, I choose two of the free laptops domains and input them. However, all the other sites still showed up. My viewers are specifically coming to the site for "free laptops." I can't seem to filter out the regular retailer ads and can't focus just on the ads relavant to what my site offers. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to isolate the ads that I want? Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
Adsense doesn't work like you want it to - there's no way to control the exact adverts that show, other than having text with the appropriate keywords and filtering out the sites you don't want advertised using the competitive ad filter. There is no option I'm aware of to select which businesses show ads on your site - I suspect you were trying to use the "allowed sites" option which allows you to select which sites you allow to show ads with your Adsense code.
If it is a blog, make sure your main page has only 1 post and make that post all about free laptops. Then, get the all in one seo plugin and make sure the free laptop keywords are setup properly. Last, but not least, wrap the term free laptops in <h3> tags a few times in the text and/or bold them. That should do it. Oh, get rid of confusing sidebar junk not related strictly to free laptops. Now you should be good to go. TomG.
