Can Someone Explain This To Me?

I have some moron threatening to sue me - because we posted links to his website. We have a public forum with nearly 200K users. They posted links to his URL, which is a steroid website, to get information on steroids by going there. He says we are violating his trademark by having links posted to his website. I've NEVER even heard of something so silly.

I will explain. He sounds like he is an idiot. I would not worry about it.

I assume it must be some SEO issue, but why would anyone want numerous links to be removed from a high PR website

Without knowing the context of the thread in question it is hard to say. Perhaps it brought some unwanted attention. Either way, you don't have a right to keep others from speaking about you or your website, so unless he is being libeled, there is not much he can do.

The issue of links on a website has been battled in court several times. As long as the link is in no way libelous, slanderous or intentionally detrimental to the website you have nothing to worry about.

Nothing more than links to his site, by forum users, to get information on steroids. And old threads at that, from like 2010. The wannabee attorney is nuts. Sent an email stating the following.

    Hello,
We have contacted you multiple times to remove links you have illegally placed to our website. We own the trademark to the the url and domain name.
If the links aren't removed within 72 business hours, we'll file a DMCA complain and C&D and you'll lose your hosting account and your domain, so make your choice!

I get a couple like that a month lately and just file them in the trash. Links and DCMA are not related, it.s not stolen content just a link to the content. Simply delete them and ignore them is my best advice. They can always use the Google feature to ignore the link if their panties are that wet about it.
