i have a relatively new blog (nothing special, just a general, simple blog with a few new posts every week or so). every few weeks, i get a message to "moderate a comment" on a post. EVERY ONE (except one so far) is just SP*M. so, of course, i just DELETE the comment before it ever makes the site. SO: what in the he** is the purpose of SP*MMERS wasting their time submitting SP*M comments on blogs? 1) do some blogs auto-set comments to go live? 2) are they using BOTS to make these submissions? just curious. THANKS
They are using bots in hopes that people either 1) aren't moderating comments or 2) just don't notice that the comments are indeed spam. Very few are submitted by hand.
THANKS MT I kinda thought that. I was waiting for someone to say... that's just what sp*mmers do. DAY IN AND DAY OUT. LOL CHEERS, Mike
I hate spam I run a forum about a certain medical niche and get spamed like hell because a couple of private anatomy parts come up once and a while. It's sooooo unbelievably blatant that it's stupid. Theres not even a chance I would let that slide. Also people make profiles and turn them into spam pages like there name is a keyword where they live is a keyword there hobbies are keywords and so on theres really no way to stop it. I've effectively stopped the bots but people still try. It's ridiculous.
back when blogs first started, there were not many blogs that moderated comments or there was not much need of it either. due to increased popularity of blogs, more and more people started getting into it and spammers started finding opportunities in it. there came the need of comment moderation, not allowing html or bbcode, captcha code, security measure like that. still this date, there are still few blogs out there that doesn;t moderate comments. thats what spammers are shooting for. as lame as it sounds or as much as we think its unethical, believe it or not - its good business for some. i just hope all spammers burn in hell
There are some old blogs out there that are still live which had comments appear automatically, but are no longer managed at all (found a few in my niche). There were ten to thirty spam comments on each post, usually with a few links in each comment. It would have to be automatic, and most of them are blatantly spam. There are also those that say something like 'interesting post' or 'I cannot agree with your point of view' and then list their website. They sometimes slip past a spam filter. I guess they figure that it takes so littel effort on their part and they're not oging to get links or traffic any other way, that they have nothing to lose.
