Can someone explain pinging to me in very simple terms?

    I keep hearing about Wordpress pinging. What is this? How does it work?

    You can go to ping site add your blogs or website rss feed and ping blog directories and blog feeds. This tells them your site has new content or new pages and it spiders them and lists the new pages.

    Pinging enables other sites to know that your blog has been updated.

    By default wordpress pings pingomatic. If you wish to add other sites to the list, go to options-writing services and do the needful
