Can Someone Explain Link Checker To Me?

I'm new to Amazon -- just trying to get a grasp on things. I know how to go in and build a product link and download the HTML to place on my site. I see they have a link checker to make sure that my links are crediting properly, but I'm confused as to what to put in for my link URL. There must be something I'm missing here. Any help would be appreciated.

The Link Checker is intended only for hand coded links, and it only checks the URL (that is, the link target). It does not check entire HTML statements or javascript; it only checks the URL (the contents of the HREF parameter).

It is not intended to be used to check links or widgets generated at Associates Central. If you generate your links there when you are logged in, then they will automatically tag correctly to your account. Until and unless you start to code links yourself, you will not need the link checker. Furthermore, if you use the same HTML each time, changing only the ASIN(s) and your associate tag (if you use more than one), you don't really need to keep checking it.
