I don't really understand Alexa, how it works, or why I should care about it. Do regular sites, (I don't mean Google, msn, yahoo) really have that many million visitors a day like they claim? And also do that many people have Alexa tool bars and do they use it to search for sites?

Yes, I am a Newbie, and would love millions of visitors a day, I guess everyone starts somewhere. But seriously can someone explain Alexa to me and while at it Google pagerank

    Thanks

Alexa's numercial ranking system is dependent on the number of Alexa toolbars users that visit your website. Alexa gets its rankings data from browsers that have the Alexa toolbar installed so the rankings can be manipulated by installing the toolbar and visiting your site multiple times. The lower the Alexa ranking number the more heavily visited the site.

While PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. When one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page.
