Ok, i am pretty clued up on seo, i have been asked to look into rss feeds for my client. So basically i am wondering if somebody can explain to me, what it is and where the best places are to submit my rss feed. is this something that i can go to 500 different sites and add my 1 feed to all those sites and hope to get a few visitors from each? or do i only have 1 feed and work on getting trackbacks from other peoples blogs? total nooooob questions and for that i am sorry. can anyone help? green rep for all in this thread
RSS is just a way to publish your content across multiple sites. If your client is using WordPress it will automatically notify services each time the site has been updated. Once your rss feeds have been sent to those sites, others can use aggregators or feed readers to read the content and follow your stories or updates. You might check out Wikipedia for the definition. The SEO BlackHat blog has a list of sites that you can ping with your rss, you might want to check that out. You might also claim your site in Technorati and then you can manually or automatically ping their service, whatever you prefer. The BlogHerald also has a good article on understanding blog and ping, that might put everything into perspective for you. RSS is a great way to reach more readers and expand your overall Internet efforts. Hopefully this helped you more than confused you.
