I've read a few sites about how best to place your ads on your website. The one thing I learned is that they all contradict eachother. half tell you to do one thing whilst the other half say never do that. I've set up a blog and would like some advice on where I should put the ads. I'm currently using 2 Google adverts and 1 Adbrite advert. Can some of you kind people offer up some advice on this subject? http://www.deansaliba.com
First thing you should do is make sure you use channels for each and every placement to see which get good CTRs and which get higher CPCs. From looking at your site I would say forget the ad placement right at the bottom of the page. Even on the shortest of posts it is still way too low down and I reckon it will perform badly for you. Instead I would recommend using a 468x60 banner between the first and second posts on the homepage, while on a post page have it before the Related Articles section. As for the Adbrite placement right at the top I would personally get rid of it. I have refreshed several times and have yet to see an ad related to wrestling. It is pushing your sidebar ads further towards the fold which you do not want as they actually ARE relevant to the reader. Just my 2 cents...
Hi, Thank you for taking the time to look at my site and offer some helpful advice. I don't know why I had an Adsense banner at the bottom of the blog. I removed it. I was only using the adbrite banner until I could reach my minimum payout amount and then I was going to abandon them, I have had them for over a year and not once did I get a single relevant ad. I know several wrestling web sites who use them and get over 100,000 visitors a day and they have told me that they have never seen a single wrestling-related ad. I've removed it. I've added a 460 X 60 Adsense banner under the navigation bar, just above the posts, as I am unable to ind out yet how to put it under the second post like you suggested. I really appreciate tthe advice.
For blogs I advice ads between posts and on the top and in the sidebars. These tend to do well. Hope this helped
No problem Dean, always happy to help. I do think it is looking better already. I would be tempted to blend the top placement in a little better though and try and create a few pixels gap between the ads and the first post. Try and centre the ads above the posts a little better aswell. If this placement doesnt work you might find more success with a 728x15 link unit. It would look more natural as part of your site. It's all about experimentation with Adsense, i have changed styles several times before settling on the best performing one. It's of long term benefit even if short term revenue is slightly lower.
I would create content, either graphic or text to the right of your first 468 to balance the ad. Turn the ad background to match the color of your background. Turn 160 side background to white and consider finishing off the page with a 200 image ad underneath Recent Readers box on the right. I think you are off to a great start! /Best
Blending the background colour of the codes is something I am looking to do but the problem is that I do not know the correct colour code as I don't have an image software program and the section where the ad is placed is actually an image background. This was something I was thinking of doing. I do this with a message board and get quite a few clicks from people clicking on them thinking they are part of the menu. (Not sure if that is against Google's terms though) Again really appreciate the help.
Yes i do have Paint, I was not aware you could find the colour code with it. I'll certainly try that. Thank you.
If you need to know a colour code I reccommend using Colour Spy, its a tiny little piece of software that comes in handy on an almost daily basis for me.
