Can some one explain me Domain names and registration processes? I mean the technology of associating: Domain, DNS and IP address. What does a Domain registrar do? What does the webhosting companies do at theri side to assign an IP to DNS or Domain or whaterver it is...
You register the domain at a domain registrar. At the registrar you assign nameservers... these are usually provided by your webhosting company. The webhosting company configures their nameservers to resolve your domain name to an ip address. This ip address is where you website is hosted and where the end user will end up. ...that's the general idea.
great ! thanks. So, can if I have the Name server addresses, can I move my website from one hosting company to other? I mean, I have to do that and the hosting company is a bad one, they are very infamous in not allowing to transfer domains. Can you advice me on how to safely move my website from one Hosting Company to other withour hurting my PR, links and all?
I think that simply switching the name server with the ones from your new host should do the trick though, I'm not 100% sure maybe someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.
Did you registered the domain through the webhosting? If yes be sure you can change the DNS of your domain before trasnfering your site to an other hosting company. If you can change the DNS of your domain, than you can change the host without any problem
