Yesterday I saw my site on the #11 spot for a particular keyword on Google. Then I commissioned somebody to submit my site to 100 social media sites and 100 internet directories. Now it's nowhere to be found among the top 100 for that keyword. Can Social Media Submissions hurt rankings? Does Google track usernames and mark them as "spammers" (e.g. spammy link builders)
It's most likely that you've got sandboxed. Building many backlinks too fast isn't a good thing, I stick with 3/4 per day tops...
Its probably just a "Google Dance". Wait for a couple of days and it'll be back there. But, if it's a new site on a new domain, the it might not come back.
I have just released a new website and i think that i might overdo bookmarking a little bit. New Marketers are in a hurry to get traffic.
As mentioned above its probably Google doing its dance or you got sandboxed. It’s pretty normal to rank well for a new keyword in a couple of days and then be thrown back in the index once Google establishes that your page are not the most important on the particular subject. Also building a 100 links from social bookmarking in such a short time, is almost bound to get your wiped from the index, especially if your site is new... As with all link building it has to be done over a longer period of time, so no I don’t think that social bookmarks hurt your rankings in any way as long as you use them like you would on any other link building strategy.
submitting your site to 100 or 1000 social bookmarking site is not going to get any thing to you, google is not going to even index it,so there is no point for being penalized for submitting site to Social bookmarking sites. I think dropping in your ranking is probably because of google dance. If you have a good site and is well optimized for that keyword, you are going to get the ranking back.
I would use sites like seochat.com to see if your site is even in the top 100 for that keyword anymore because they might have just brought your keyword ranking down but if it's completely gone then just wait it out for a couple days ( usually a week ).
Thanks for the quick replies guys. After posting my first question, I saw my site back up again on #8, with the same keyword. Now it's gone again from the top 100. So, does building social media bookmarks too fast hurt rankings? Would that be because link velocity wasn't maintained? Also, the social media bookmarks that were created used just one username across all the sites. Do you think Google can identify this and penalize the site because of this?
