Can signature links hurt?

Hey all, I'm 18 and created my first website a little over a month ago and I've been submitting to directories, etc. and I recently stuck the link to my site in my signature. I have heard that building too many links too quickly for a new website is a bad thing (not too worried about the directories, all free submits that are typically 2-8 week review times) and I was trying to gauge how much is too much. I'm a natural born forum poster so I don't intend to stop posting, but should I not include my signature some of the time when posting on forums such as DP to scale back my backlinks, or is excessive backlinking making hundreds of backlinks a day? Any advice appreciated, thanks =)

I probably wouldn't worry about it. I believe that excessive equates to hundreds of backlinks weekly. Just go about doing what you do, man.

No I dont't believe forum signatures can hurt your site, unless ofcourse it's thousands of post per day and that might raise a few red flags.

I'm not buying forum signatures, I'm just wondering about my own usage of one =)

Thanks for the input so far guys, I don't want to mess my site up in the long run.

You should be fine with links in your sig aslong as you don't go mad (hundreds of posts a day).

Agreed. Just dont do it in excess to get the red flag. Something like 200 or 1k worth of links in one day.

I have one domain name/website that I have promoted via sig links for the past 18 months and it brings in sufficient amount of traffic either from sig links or from someone seeing it in a sig link. I think and feel it wont hurt. Just be sure the sig link to the forum you are at is related somehow. Sparks interest and traffic. Write something catchy for the title of the sig link.

I would defiantly add links to your site in your Sig, maybe ever 2 to different spots.
it won't hurt as all ;)

heck, you could even add my link in your sig, the more links the better.
especially with your less then 200 post, it wouldn't raise any alarm in google eyes.
Not even if you had 2,000 post... if your adding 20k or higher links a day, that's when you would want to be more cautious.

    cheers

I'm of the opinion that signature links won't hurt your site. That is unless you create 1,000's of posts per day. The thing I think that is best about it is if your site is about SEO or such, having links from relevant forums like this will help. It is always much better to have links from relevant sites than from Joe's Pizza Shack for example! While all links do help a little, it is the quality ones that help the most!

nah.. it shudnt matter much unless u buy a sig link of 1000 posts from a guy.. dat means a sudden increase of 1000 baklinks in a blink........

so normal posting.. of around 100 posts a day is perfectly normal
