Can .org domains be used on "for profit" web sites?

I read somewhere that .org domain names could not be used for "for profit" web sites...is there any truth to that?

I don't think so, there lots of commercial and even spam sites that use .org TLD.

 

They aren't intended for 'for profit' organisations but domain name trading is a business like any other - if you're prepared to pay for the domain name you can use it for whatever type of site you like (well, as long as it's legal).

 

Of course you can. Anyone can buy a .org & have a money making website on it.

 

Yup as stated above, they are "instended" for organizational use which is generally non-profit organizations, etc...

But you own the domain and only must abide by certain laws.

 

I've seen many successful org domain based businesses...

 

you can use it for any type of website

 

I use some for paid business sites

I too have seen many sites with .org used for business...it's just that I've never taken the time to read the fine print when buying a .org domain and wasn't sure if there really was something in there about that or not, as I had read somewhere (I wish I could remember where I read it!). I'm not worried about it...just curious...

.org is organization… And an organization can be commercial.

 

Their is noting legal about it. Go ahead and earn with .org domain. Its cheap too

 

I made $900 last money on Trained.org.

 

There used to be resitrictions, but not now. You're free to use it for any purpose.

 

I saw many site have a commercial

 

i own a non-commercial and a commercial one... so it's up to you I guess

 

You could even build a porn website

 

If you want you can ... who will check it ??

 

You can do anything on it. It just "suits" the non-profit scene.

 

There are no restrictions on what you can use .org for, so use it for whatever you want (as far as it's legal)
