What makes you think there are no links?

yes it is qutie possible to gain a PR with many outgoing links and hardly incoming links, you have to consider the other factors that effect the PR of a site such as the value of the content, e.g. useful nor not. You may also consider the originality and constructural design of the site.

    Overall, its not very suprising.

    To clarify.

The original Post: Can one get a PageRank without any incoming Links?

My answer: Yes it is possible to get a PageRank without any external incoming links. You can get a PR from good quality and relevant internal (same site) links.

No, wrong, page rank has to do with links and only links. As stated the revized question is whether internal links can affect pr with no external links. Please learn to read.

Yes links do play a major part in pageranks but you cannot prove that links and only links affect PR.

    PageRank Explained

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

Google's original Pagerank formula gives a Pagerank to all pages even without incoming links.

The (1-d) part will give a non-zero Pagerank even when rest of the terms are zero.

Please note - This is the actual Pagerank and not the toolbar Pagerank.

Well I dont think so, but in many cases I have seen some websites with a PR 6 but not having a single link at all. I will call that a bug in Google's algo.

Yes this is really true. Some people still think that a single page does not generate any PR value but it does... not much though....

I believe you need backlinks to get high PR ranking. Sometimes, the link:mydomain.com doesn't work well on google. I think it works better on MSN.

I was talking about PR3 sites. PR6 is impossible :)
