One content filled site I own recently got a PR of 3. Though there were many outgoing links, it had no Incomming links.

    What do you say?

Google sure did had a glitch then. I guess it had more to do with the contents, though.

What makes you think there are no links? Search Google for gietindia.com and you'll find some.

First of all, they got 4 backlinks and they are online since 2003. It is normal that after a site matures and has a lot of clients visiting the site, it will earn page ranks.

Remember that when all new sites are born/indexed they automaticly get a small value in Googles eyes.. but not high enough to make it a pr3 without any inbound links.

PR 4 and even 5 doesn't take much in the way of incoming links. PR 6 and above on the other hand is another story.

That's the whole point of Page Rank - Incoming links. I don't think all links are really listed when you type "link:site.com".

I have had sites with zero backlinks get a PR3. It's not all about backlinks.

Those sites have backlinks now. When I first started making websites I didnt attempt to create backlinks (noob) and months later my site had a PR3 with no backlinks showing.

I thinks its because google ranks pages and not sites. So relevant links from internal pages must be a contributing factor.

There could be a different explanation, but I think internal links can create page rank on their own.

one site was www.mistermix.co.uk - it still doesnt have any worthwhile backlinks...

It had PR3 before i arranged the those links. There may have been a few pr0 links but nothing worthy of a PR3 alone, in my opinion.

If you think about it, it makes complete sense that internal links alone can create page rank.

http://www.mistermix.co.uk/links/ has a page rank of 3 purely because of internal links.

I still believe www.mistermix.co.uk was given a PR of 3 based on internal links alone - but i'm open to any info/knowledge you may have that proves this wrong.

    :)

what we are debating is wether those links have to be from an external site or if internal links can create PR.

In my experiance a site can get page rank without any backlinks. Most webmaster won't be able to experiance this because it is standard practice to create lots of links when you publish a site.
