If I run a Myspace layout website and it looks very similar to Myspace.com, will there be any chance that they will sue me? I mean the idea is to promote myspace but it does look like their site so will they appreciate it or will it risk being sued?
They always CAN sue you. If you have the word MySpace in the domain name or a site design that's very similar to MySpace's design then those odds increase greatly.
I see... what are the chances that they will? Have any sites been reported tohave been sued by myspace b4?
For marketing purposes you don't really want to have your site look just like myspace anyhow. Make it look unique, so people remember your site and you get your own 'brand' feel, instead of reinforcing the myspace brand.
That would be some bad PR if they started suing myspace template sites imho, however if it is a blatant ripoff of their design I would be careful.
MySpace has filed a number of Federal lawsuits - including sites that don't even have the name "myspace" in the domain. I haven't heard about any sites being sued for design issues, but rather for attempting to profit off their trademark.
