Does anyone know if backlinks can actually dilute a page's PR? For example, if a page has a couple dozen backlinks from >PR5--and therefore receives a decent PR--what would happen if that page added several dozen more backlinks but all from <PR5? Could that page's PR then drop?
Thanks, Shawn, this is really good to know. BTW, how do I add a signature with links? I have to have a few more posts, right?
Yeah, you can find the signature guidelines here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/faq.php?faq=signatures
Just out of curiousity, could you join a competitor with a link farm and get them blacklisted. I would personally never do that, but I'd hate to think that someone could do it to me.
I think it's safe to say that any incoming link can't have a negative effect on your site... only your out going links could. If you linked to a link farm, shady site, black listed etc. This tells google you have made the choice to link to someone that is not in good standing.
Oh welll how do i find out which link is bad and which is not. I mean which link is from the link farm and blacklisted.???
First thing I do is go to http://www.whois.sc and run the domain name and take a peek to see if there is any black list history, and other info. Also, if the site isn't indexed in google and or it doesn't have any pr value sometimes that can be a sign, but not allways. Go with your gut.
If the domain is hosted on shared hosting, does whois.sc show you blacklist info for the domain or for the IP?
As far as I can tell it's the ip so if i come accross a black listed site I look deeper and see if it could be them or not. Sometimes you'll see a link to SPAMHAUS.ORG or another resource that will give more details on the black listing.
That's what I thought... in which case it won't necessarily tell you that the specific domain is problematic.
