Can irrelevant backlinks hurt my rankings?

lets say i have a site about spyware removal and i have backlinks on random pages all over the web. Do they boost my rankings or do nothing because they are not "quality backlinks"?

 

Every link helps but a relevant link will always be better.

Any type of backlink is good but if it's a relative link it is worth much more. The idea is to find the sites that are relative to yours and try and link with them. It's even better if they choose to link to you without you knowing!

 

No it wont hurt your site, But Google wants a QUALITY site which is relevant.

 

If it would hurt your site that would be an easy way to do some damage to the competition.

 

it will not hurt your ranking but if the links are not related , it will not effect your serp result
